PARK CITY
Park City Mountain Resort, the largest in the United States, nestles in the heart of Park City, Utah. Just a 35-minute drive from Salt Lake City International Airport, it's a stone's throw from the historic Main Street. The resort thrives with activities throughout the year, offering two distinct base areas, nine hotels, exciting family adventures, and ski-in-ski-out access to Historic Main Street, along with over two dozen dining options.
Park City houses two world-class ski resorts, Deer Valley and Park City Mountain, attracting global visitors all year. With approximately 8,500 permanent residents, Park City is bustling with annual events, serves as a haven for outdoor lovers, and provides a wealth of cultural experiences, from live concerts to local dining.
In the Wasatch Mountains, Park City, Utah, stands out for its:
- Skiing: Home to renowned ski resorts like Deer Valley Resort and Park City Mountain, it boasts nearly 3,000 hectares of skiable terrain. Deer Valley consistently ranks among North America's top ski destinations, while Snowbasin is celebrated for its varied slopes and minimal lift queues.
- Luxury Accommodations: Park City offers prestigious lodgings, including Stein Eriksen Residences, Montage Deer Valley, St. Regis Deer Valley, Pendry Park City, and Waldorf Astoria Park City, the latter providing coveted slope side access.
- Outdoor Activities: With over 400 miles of trails, Park City is perfect for exploration, whether on foot or horseback through the wilderness.
- Neighborhoods: Canyons Village stands as a premier locale featuring top-tier skiing and opulent properties, such as the ski-in-ski-out Colony at White Pine Canyon.
Since its establishment in 1981, Deer Valley has been dedicated to excellence in all aspects. Our staff, whether seasonal or permanent, are trained to provide outstanding service, crucial to the resort's ongoing and future success. We adhere to our three core principles: delivering exceptional guest service, offering an exclusive ski-only experience, and regulating daily skier numbers on the mountain. Over time, we've invested more than $186 million in enhancements. From our initial season, we've expanded from five to 21 chairlifts, 35 to 103 ski runs, two-to-three-day lodges, 50 to over 500 ski instructors (one of the nation's largest ski schools), and from 200 to over 2,800 staff members, many with over 20 years of service.
Deer Valley provides a range of summer activities, including mountain biking and hiking with lift access, picturesque chairlift rides, and a Summer Adventure Camp for kids. Throughout the summer, the Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater hosts three concert series: the Utah Symphony's Deer Valley Music Festival, the Deer Valley Concert Series, and Mountain Town Music's complimentary community concerts.
In 2002, Deer Valley was the venue for the Olympic Winter Games' freestyle mogul, aerial, and alpine slalom events in Salt Lake City. The 2020-2021 season celebrated 25 years of Deer Valley hosting premier international sports events, including 19 FIS World Cups and three FIS Freestyle World Championships. Our commitment to hosting significant events and surpassing guest expectations continues to be a defining feature of Deer Valley's heritage.
Alta and Snowbird, Utah are known for many things, including skiing, wildflowers, and other outdoor activities:
A skier's paradise! Not for snowboarders. Alta does not allow snowboarders. It is the skiers mountain. Skiers absolutely love it. Alta is independently owned, so it has a local ski resort ambiance without being markedly corporate in nature. There are some great Utah ski accommodations near Alta Resort. Many like to ditch the snowboarders in their group at Snowbird and go to Alta (so much for family on powder days). Local's secret tip about Alta: Sugarloaf Run is a must. If you're a good skier, you'll enjoy the awesome powder in this area of the mountain. There is a quad chair, really nice little shoots you can go off on this run.
Snowbird is one of Utah's more challenging ski resorts, boasting a significant vertical drop. It's the only resort in the Cottonwoods with an aerial tram, providing expansive access to the terrain. The vast landscape and a terrain park make Snowbird a favorite among snowboarders. The resort is unveiling a new quad lift to Gad Valley, the Gad 2 run, leading to one of the mountain's prime ski areas. However, some locals have mixed feelings about this addition, as it exposes a previously secluded powder spot. Snowbird caters more to experienced skiers than families. For avid skiers, Snowbird in Utah is a must-visit destination, with excellent ski lodging nearby. Alta and Snowbird offer a joint day pass, allowing access to both resorts.
Gad 2 run offers access to Gad Valley, a well-kept local secret. In the summer, visitors can enjoy the mountain coaster, while Gad Valley's hiking and mountain biking trails are currently under development. The restaurant atop Hidden Peak, accessible by tram, offers breathtaking views.
Winter highlights include:
- Over 500" average annual snowfall, the highest in Utah
- An aerial tram
- The largest vertical drop
- The most black diamond runs in Utah
Summer highlights feature:
- Mountain Coaster
- Aerial tram rides
- Mountain biking and hiking trails
- Alpine slide
- Rope Course
- Zipline
- Family movie nights on Saturdays in the plaza
- Oktoberfest, starting mid-September through October, with German beer, food, merchandise, vendors, music, and dancing
In winter, Snowbird boasts the "greatest snow on earth," with over 500" of annual snowfall. Hidden Peak reaches 11,000 feet above sea level, and the unique aerial tram is a highlight. The new Gad 2 lift opens up access to Gad Valley. The tunnel through the mountain to Mineral Basin features a conveyor for easy passage. Snowbird stands out for its challenging terrain, setting it apart from other ski resorts.
A favorite among locals. Brighton Ski Resort is the least expensive resort in Salt Lake area, but also has less runs. Great resort for snowboarders because of their super pipe and terrain park. Also a fantastic place for little kids because it's not as busy and offers a great ski school. Brighton is the only resort in Salt Lake County that offers night skiing, but only limited lifts are available. There is some great Utah ski vacation rentals near Brighton Resort where you can stay on your winter vacation to Utah. The ski school for kids is great because adults can get a few runs in while kids are learning to ski.
Local's secret tip about Brighton: hit the Great Western lift, stay up top and you can find fresh powder through the trees all day long. You can drop into the trees and find fresh powder all day long - it's crazy in there.
Solitude offers more high-speed quads than other resorts nearby. The local secret is the beloved Honeycomb Canyon (there is always great powder..shh don't tell anyone). You can buy a Solitude/Brighton connection pass. Milk run is the secret powder run at Solitude
Mayflower Mountain at Deer Valley, Utah's newest ski resort, is under development by Extell Development from NYC. It will boast multiple luxury hotels, private residences, and a wide array of luxury amenities for both residents and visitors. Mayflower Ski Resort is set to be North America's first world-class alpine village established since 1981, and it's already generating significant interest, with properties selling rapidly even before public market listings.Mayflower Resort and Mayflower Communities offer real estate for sale, enhancing Park City's real estate options.Mayflower Mountain is envisioned as a master-planned community perched above the Jordanelle Reservoir, adding another ski village to the Park City region, complete with residential and commercial spaces. Initiated in 2019, the development is expected to span the next two decades, with a soft opening scheduled for 2024-2025, featuring 10 ski lifts.Positioned just east of Deer Valley Resort, discussions are ongoing to potentially connect it with Mayflower Ski Resort, which would expand amenities and improve access.
